Today is Friday, and as I considered which project to get out, the various “finish” linkies helped me decide. So instead of working on “London Roads” which is no longer new and exciting, nor is it anywhere near finished, I got “Saltwater Taffy” and its binding out.
Bouncing from project to project has been called “Quilters’ ADD.” I have a new perspective from having read How to Steal Like an Artist. Kleon advises, “When you get sick of one project, move over to another, and when you’re sick of that one, move back to the project you left. Practice productive procrastination” (65). “Productive procrastination,” I like that a lot better.
So, here is the finished look.
The sun was just right to show the quilting. For those new to the blog, the quilt’s history: Beginning, Piecing the Back, Quilting.
I had a little over 1/2 yard of binding left, so it goes into this pile:
I’ve seen several scrappy quilts bound with leftovers, so I started to save them. Maybe one quilt or maybe a light and a dark. Time will tell. Linking with Oh Scrap! for these binding bits. (The quilt is also made from scraps, but has been shown before.)

“Productive procrastination,” I like that – less guilt attached to it! My husband said to me today – “You’ve got a lot of projects going.” And that is true. Sometimes I need to let a project ‘simmer’ until it feels good. Other times there is a difficult step which takes a lot out of me and I have to step away for a breather. Now I can just call it “Productive procrastination!” Thanks. Love the soft colors!
I do like this quilt! I also like the idea of moving from project to project, because I do that to avoid overdosing on any one project.

I’ve always felt that my brain is running a little problem-solving subroutine in the background while I’m working on a different project. When I return to the first project, I’m ready to tackle whatever hung me up on it.
great finish! I have a tub of leftover bindings which I use up on various donation quilts. sometimes they go into string blocks.
I was immediately drawn to this post as you mention my secret naughty obsession: salt water taffy candy! I am not even allowed to have it in the house as I would need all my teeth replaced if allowed to eat it as much as I want! Oh and BTW cute quilt 🙂

Scrappy bindings are the perfect finish for a scrappy quilt. Or at least in my opinion they are. I just assembled a scrappy pink binding and a scrappy yellow binding for quilts I am working on this weekend. And I pulled out all the browns I could find for another one but it isn’t put together yet. You just need to use the same size for all your binding strips to be able to do this efficiently.
I love the idea of productive procrastination! That dedscribes me, too! I’m glad I’m not the only one.
Well, Quilter’s ADD certain sounds like me. I too like to work on a variety of projects to hold my interest. I like the idea that I am still progressing on SOMETHING.
Productive procrastination – I have been practicing it over the years and never new the word for it. But this summer I decided to finish all my UFOs before starting anything new. Only sketches of new projects are allowed, but no cutting or sewing.
Very pretty finish! I save my leftover bindings too. But I like to pair them and make 16 patch blocks from them. About once a year I end up with one or two donation quilts made just from bindings. Always happy to see you link with Oh Scrap!
